HOW TO PREVENT "HEAT STRESS IN POULTRY BIRDS"
Alot of Poultry farmers have lost due to heat stress this past week.
Heat stress is not a bacterial or disease.
It's simply a flunctuation in environmental conditions.
Heat stress occurs when the temperature goes beyond the normal needed for the comfortability of the birds.
In a very simple term , it's excessive heat.
HOW TO KNOW WHEN BIRDS ARE HEAT STRESSED
-Gasping, panting , panting respiration
-Wings spreading
-Stupor, staggerness, no agility and terminal convulsions
-Cannibalism
-Drop I'm egg production
-Increased output of urine
-Light body weight
-Poor colouring and rough skin
HOW TO REDUCE /PREVENT HEAT STRESS IN POULTRY BIRDS
One of the reasons why birds fall prey of heat stress is when they are not checked on constantly, if the birds are checked constantly , you will quickly observe some symptoms like gasping for air and then swing into action.Farmer attendant should ensure that birds are checked at intervals most especially this period
-Increase ventilation of the pens, ensure the sun doesn't touch the birds directly
- If you are a small scale farmer, then add ice blocks into there drinking water
- Ensure the stocking density of the pen is not exceeded
- Use antistress like vita flash, to always ease up stress
-Feed poultry birds in cooler part of the day e.g early in the morning and late evenings
